WNBA fans weren’t happy with the Indiana Fever’s latest roster decision, and head coach Christie Sides is addressing the matter on Wednesday.
One day after the Fever cut rookie Celeste Taylor, Sides is explaining the rationale behind the move.
That was just a really tough choice,” Sides told reporters when asked about cutting Taylor.
“Celeste did everything we asked her to do, she was a great teammate. She talked more than most as a rookie, she just felt really comfortable communicating on the court and on the bench as well.
It was really hard for us to let her go, and it was a business decision. One of the hardest things I’ve had to do in this game.”
The Fever parted ways with Taylor to make room for former first round pick Damiris Dantas. Sides talked about how Dantas will fit with the team, including how she can be incorporated in to the rotation.
“She’s a presence in the post, she also can shoot the ball really well from outside and from three,” Sides said about the new addition to the roster.
Sides said that the team was concerned wth Dantas entering the year healthy and that she was able to maintain her conditioning during the offseason.
The former No. 12 overall pick out of Brazil has played professionally since 2011, making her WNBA debut in 2014 with the Minnesota Lynx. The Fever will be Dantas’ third WNBA team following two stints in Minnesota and one in Atlanta.
The Fever will now look to get back into the win column on Thursday when they visit the
Storm in Seattle
